Things To Do :
Fife - and particularly the east Neuk - is popular for
its many lovely beaches, the coastal and woodland walks, the abundant birdlife,
the quaint fishing villages, the 45 golf courses and other sporting facilities
and the interesting and historic places that abound.
 Upper
Largo is linked to Lower Largo by a short walk owned by the Woodlands
Trust. Lower Largo (the birthplace of the original Robinson Crusoe
) gives access to the Fife Coastal Path and to the beach. Watersports
including windsurfing, paddle boats, sailing and water -skiing are
available at Elie - 5 miles away. Elie beach and the West Sands
at St Andrews and several others have Blue Flag status.
 Golfers
are spoilt for choice in the area with 60 courses to choose from
including those at St Andrews, the Home of Golf. There are several
golf courses within 15 minutes (and less!) from the cottage and
all of the rest of the 45 are within an hours drive. The courses
of Tayside and Perthshire are also within easy reach. The cottage
is well placed for those attending the Golf Open or the Dunhill
Golf in St Andrews which is 9 miles away. A non-stop direct bus
runs every hour from Upper Largo - so no parking problems!
There are tennis courts in Lundin Links (1 Mile away)
and an indoor swimming pool in Leven (3 miles away).
 There
are many good walks in the area - the Fife Coastal Path which runs
all the way around the Fife coast and locally Keil's Den -another
Woodlands Trust property as well as the 2 mile beach at St Andrews
round to the Eden estuary. A book of walks is available at the cottage
and also an ordnance survey map!
Birdwatchers are well catered for with the RSPB property,
Vane Farm, nearby as well as reserves at the Eden Estuary and on the Isle
of May (an hours boat trip) in addition to the great variety on the beach
and even at the cottage.
There are many historic places to visit in the area.
St Andrews is a medieval university town as well as being the Home of
Golf and the cathedral and Castle are well worth a visit. For golfers
there is the British Golf Museum.
There are several National Trust properties in the area
including Falkland Palace, Culross, Kellie Castle and the Hill of Tarvit.
Dunfermline Abbey, Inchcolm Abbey ( a short boat trip away on the island
of Inchcolm) and the May Island are also good day trips. Dundee is only
a little further over the Tay Bridge and has has some fine visitor attractions.
Edinburgh with its innumerable places of interest is an hour away as are
Stirling and Perth.
